Practice Trailer

In october I visited the Co-operative film festival where I took part in a creating a film trailer workshop and above is the trailer which I created. I used I movie 06 to edit the footage and garage band to create the music for it.

Ancilliary Texts Final Product

On this post I have created my ancillary tasks which are a result from research into both a film magazine featuring a film and a film poster, below is the poster and film magazine front cover that I have created.

Below is the poster for my film I have created, to do this I used photoshop elements 6 along with a wide range of tools and techniques.

The second text I have created is the magazine cover, I used the same image as my poster and then edited it differently, below is the cover.

























After looking further into my ancillary products I have decided to fully re-do both the film poster and the magazine front cover, below are the re-done products.

After recieving feedback on my ancillary products i decicded that I needed to re-do them, i received a large amount of feedback such as some listed below

• Doesn't reflect the content of the trailer
• Too cluttered
• Copyright image used
• More images needed
• Title not clear enough

• Should be a different image to the poster
• More articles
• Better magazine name
• Tagline for the magazine should be included

After revising my ideas and taking the feedback into consideration i edited both texts, below are my finished products

Final Cut

Above is the final cut of my Dead Moor Teaser Trailer. It has been edited using Final Cut Express and I believe that after receiving audience feedback from my rough cut I have been able to produce a high quality final cut.
If I had the time then I would maybe collect some extra footage of "zombies" however I do feel it looked very good.

Editing And Post Production Notes

In this post I will be Writing about my editing and production that I have done to my trailer and what went well and what didn't.


The first problem I encountered was that my footage would not upload onto the older version of the macs, which meant I had to use the newer versions of the macs to edit my trailer. I laos had a few issues with opening up final cut as I needed both the memory stick and external hard drive in order for final cut express to work.

Rough Cuts

Above is my first rough cut of my teaser trailer that have created and the first rough cut that i have shown to an audience, below are some of the comments i received, from this i can improve it according to a live audience

• as-well as an american age rating screen have a version with a UK rating screen
• Treadman character does not project his voice loud enough
• change the font to represent genre
• Some of the voices are too quiet
• music does not go with the production title
• Girl is laughing when getting her stomach ripped open
• Elroy does not appear as their friend
• Colour of the font
• Over dub some of the voices
• controversial rock music
• eery music should be added
• speed up the spade hit

Ancilliary Texts Ideas And Research

Film Posters

For my ancillary texts I have decided to create both a magazine cover featuring my film and a poster for my film, firstly I have looked at some Film Posters for which I can get some ideas for mine from.

The first poster I have looked at is George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead poster, I noticed a few things about it including both the artwork and the contents on the page such as people involved with the film.

As well as looking at a Dawn of the Dead poster I have also had a looks and analysed a Shaun of the Dead poster, this is more relevant to my film as it mixes in similar genres to mine i.e. comedy, horror, zombies etc and so from this I have picked out some key aspects as to what mine could include.

The third poster poster I have looked at is what i originally based my teaser poster on and so it is very relevant to the poster I will create, there are a few things I have taken from this into consideration


















Now that I have looked at some different posters I can begin listing the aspects that mine must include.

1.  Obviously the most important aspect of the poster will be the image this must be suitable for the target audience I am aiming my film at and must be of a very high quality
2. Similary the title is very important and must stand out to the viewers otherwise it is not getting the title of the film across
3. it must also include some film reviews, this is usually a small clip it from a review or a star rating followed by who has reviewed it
4. it must also include the films tagline, which should also stand out but not over power the main title
5. it should list the companies involved in creating the film such as the distribution and production companies, for example dolby digital
6. it should also include either the directors name or actors actresses in the film that play large roles
7. similar to number 6 at the bottom it should include the main people and comapnies involved with the film shown in text

1. finally it should also include the website of the film for fans to view at their leasure.

Magazine Covers
  Combined with making the poster for my film I will also be created the front cover of a magazine featuring my film, however before I do this I must carry out some research into the front covers of magazines with film features on them.

When looking at this first magazine I noticed a number of things such as the full page picture the large title which will attract an audience to read the magazine, the title of the magazine is also very big but part of the image stands out over it.

This second Magazine front cover I have looked at has been edited to match the style of the film i.e. black colours and a font which suits the style of the film.

This third magazine done for the new hit release avatar is very similar to the first, again with large text for the most important aspects such as the films title and big article inside the magazine.








































Now that I have looked at a wide range of film magazine front covers I can make a list of the things that my front cover should include.

1. A large picture that shows off my film, this should be relevant to my film and stand out to my target audience
2. Title of the magazine, this should be the largest bit of text on the page and should also act as a logo for the magazine so that the audience can see it from a distance on the shelf of a shop
3. Title of my film, this is also important to further denote whats inside the magazine
4. other articles inside, these should not over power the writing for my feature film in the magazine but it should be done in a bag enough text to stand out from a distance
5. It should also include a barcode which can be teamed up with the logo of the magazine.

Production Schedule

For this post I will be giving an outline for the dates I ill be filming and what I will need to film on them


Sunday 8th November - This is when I will begin filming, I will be filming a hooded character who will play the zombie chasing a stereotypical good looking female character and eventually he will catch her and attack her.


Tuesday 10th November - This is when I will be filming my second bit of filming which will take place in the sixth form centre of Ilkley Grammar School, I will be filming my four main characters as they discuss the road trip, as well as the bully scenes with Elroy.


Saturday 14th November - Here I will be filming some scenes with zombies as well as the main characters setting off in the car and arriving at their destination, The Ilkley moors where they will set up camp


Hopefully I should get all the footage I need in these shooting days however I may need to do some re-shoots if I feel the footage is not of a good quality.
